För- & Nackdelar
För- & Nackdelar
- Thermoflex fabric keeps you warm at temperatures between 10°C and 18°C without making you overheat as soon as the sun comes out.
- The Progetto X2 Air seat pad provides comfort on long rides.
- The leg ends just above the knees have a sculpted, raw-cut finish - so there is no need for a gripper elastic, yet the legs don’t ride up.
- There are stretch mesh panels on the back and shoulders for enhanced ventilation.
- As the bib short weighs just 222 grams, you will hardly notice you are wearing a thermal garment.
- This bib short is designed for the transitional seasons. In temperatures below 10°C, the Espresso 2 bib tight is a better choice because it covers your legs completely.

If you like cycling in autumn and spring, you don’t want to have to choose between summer shorts that may be too cold and winter shorts that quickly become too warm. This Castelli Espresso Thermal bib short with extended legs strikes a perfect balance: It provides the warmth you need on chilly mornings, yet will not make you break a sweat as soon as the sun comes out.
The story behind these shorts is actually a nice one to share. Castelli once cut the first Omloop Thermal bibshort exactly at the point where pros would cut through their knee warmers on a sunny, cold Omloop Nieuwsblad. Those extra centimetres of fabric turned out to add a fair bit of warmth, and did not require gripper elastics. The current Espresso Thermal bib short revisits that idea of slightly extended legs, but uses the warm and soft Thermoflex fabric from the Espresso 2 Thermal bib tights. The result is the best of both worlds: the warmth and stretch of a bib tight, in the silhouette of a bib short.

Thermoflex fabric
This fabric keeps you warm without making you overheat. It stretches comfortably with every pedal stroke, stays soft against your skin and keeps you comfortable throughout every ride, even on chilly mornings.
Progetto X2 Air chamois
This seat pad is seamless: There are no edges that could chafe, even on your longest rides, so you can sit comfortably in the saddle for hours on end.
Sculpted raw-cut leg finish
The short's legs taper sharply just above your knees and do not include any gripper elastics to prevent leaving pressure marks. The fabric extension provides just that little bit of extra warmth on your knees.
Ideal for:
- Temperatures between 10°C and 18°C - great for autumn and spring;
- Use with knee warmers during the coldest parts of your ride;
- Both road cycling and gravel rides in varying temperatures.
- Winter rides below 10°C - in such conditions, the Castelli Espresso 2 bib tight offers more warmth.
- Summer rides above 18°C - in such conditions, a non-thermal bib short will be more comfortable.
- Wash the bib short inside out at a maximum of 30°C and use a sports detergent to ensure the chamois and stretch mesh straps retain their excellent fit.
- Leave the bib short to air dry; the Thermoflex fabric and the padding are not suitable for the tumbledryer.
For what temperature range is the Castelli Espresso Thermal bib short suitable?
The Espresso Thermal bib short is designed for temperatures between 10°C and 18°C. The Thermoflex fabric keeps you warm on chilly mornings yet prevents you from overheating as the temperature rises.
What is the difference between the Castelli Espresso Thermal bib short and the Castelli Espresso 2 bib short?
The Castelli Espresso Thermal bib short is made from warm, stretchy Thermoflex fabric for rides between 10°C and 18°C. The Castelli Espresso 2 bib short is a non-thermal summer model that is more comfortable if the temperature rises above 18°C. If you mainly cycle in autumn and spring, choose the Thermal version. If you mainly cycle in summer, the regular Espresso 2 bib short is the better choice.
What makes the Thermoflex fabric of the Castelli Espresso Thermal bib shorts different from the fabric used in standard bib shorts?
Thermoflex is a thicker, warmer fabric than that used in summer shorts, but it stretches just as well. Thus, the Castelli Espresso Thermal bibshorts remain comfortable during exercise, even when it’s chilly outside.
